Rimkus Consulting Group, Inc. in Orlando is seeking a Construction Field Engineer/Assistant Project Manager to support BES projects for our property owners, developers, investors, lenders and contractor clients.

Requirements include 3–5 years in ground-up developments or renovations, a B.S. in a construction-related field, and EIT/PE designations are a plus; travel is about 10% overnight, 60% in office and 30% in field. Excellent report writing and client communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

3–5 years of professional construction experience in ground-up developments, renovations, retrofit or fit out.
B.S. in architecture, engineering, building science, construction management or related degree.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
Provide technical expertise for building assessments, repairs, renovations, maintenance, restoration, and new construction projects.
Work with licensed professionals in the assessment, design and construction of commercial, residential, and industrial buildings.
Perform field assessments within all areas of the subject site, including ladders, lifts, rooftops, mechanical rooms, and confined spaces.
Be familiar with local and state building codes and standards (historical and current).
Review product submittals, samples, mock-ups, testing reports, data sheets, and warranties.
Be familiar with construction materials testing standards.
Read, interpret, and understand construction drawings and specifications.
Participate in evaluating construction change orders by reviewing scope, cost, and project impacts.

The Consultant will utilize their technical education, experience, and training to support Built Environment Solutions (BES) projects for our property owners, developers, investors, lenders and contractor clients. Consultants bring solid experience, work with limited supervision, contribute meaningfully to project success, apply advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to moderately complex issues, and may begin mentoring less experienced consultants. Consultants develop clear conclusions, solutions, and recommendations through reports and presentations while supporting advanced analyses, project strategy, budgeting, billing responsibilities, and execution of recommendations. Consultants understand how company practice areas interact, coaching and providing constructive feedback to team members, and communicating ideas persuasively through strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
Be able to write and tailor reports for specific clientele.
Provide technical expertise for building assessments, repairs, renovations, maintenance, restoration, and new construction projects.
Work with licensed professionals in the assessment, design and construction of commercial, residential, and industrial buildings.
Perform field assessments within all areas of the subject site. Site assessment may include working from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, rooftops, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, elevator machine rooms, fire protection equipment rooms, and confined spaces.
Be familiar with and able to research local and state building codes and standards (historical and current).
Review/research product submittals, samples, mock-ups, testing reports, data sheets, and warranties.
Be familiar with construction materials testing standards.
Be able to read, interpret, and understand construction drawings and specifications.
Participate in evaluating construction change orders by reviewing scope, cost, and project impacts; apply knowledge of current construction costs to support negotiations and recommend appropriate resolutions.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Construction field engineer or assistant project management experience is required. Building Inspection experience is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft office software is required.
Good report writing skills and verbal communication skills are required.
Must be able to interact and communicate with clients at all levels (e.g. internal and external) and work independently with good judgment and critical thinking skills.
Familiarity with general construction principles and processes.
Demonstrates ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders to support successful project outcomes.

Required Experience, Education, and Certifications:

B.S. in architecture, engineering, building science, construction management or other construction-related degree or higher.
3-5 years of experience as a professional in the construction of ground-up developments, renovations, retrofit or fit out of buildings.
Engineer-in-training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) designations are a plus.

The Salary Range for this position is $83,000 - $124,000 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVEL

Physical Demands

Work will be performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be attentive, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Overtime

This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
