Job summary

APAC-Atlantic, part of CRH’s South Division, is a leader in asphalt production serving Coastal Georgia and Low Country South Carolina. The Area Manager oversees asphalt paving crews, utility crews, and plant operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and profitability while coordinating with estimating, sales, and maintenance teams.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10+ years in heavy civil construction with 5+ years of leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Ten+ years of progressive experience in heavy civil construction, asphalt paving, asphalt production, utility construction, or related operations preferred.
  • Five+ years of leadership experience managing multiple crews, projects, facilities, or operational business units preferred.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and operational performance measures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and promote a strong commitment to safety throughout all operations.
  • Direct and oversee asphalt paving crews, utility crews, and asphalt plant operations across the assigned area.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production schedules to support safe and efficient execution.
  • Establish operating priorities, monitor performance, and implement actions to improve productivity, quality, and profitability.
  • Provide leadership and direction to superintendents, supervisors, foremen, plant personnel, and other operations employees.
  • Oversee daily asphalt plant operations, including production planning, plant utilization, product quality, operating costs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with maintenance and quality control teams to maximize plant reliability, uptime, and product consistency.
  • Support preventive maintenance, capital planning, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure paving and utility work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Monitor production rates, labor utilization, equipment performance, project costs, and schedule attainment.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues that may affect safety, quality, customer commitments, or financial performance.
  • Manage operating budgets and contribute to annual planning, forecasting, and cost-control activities.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, including productivity, equipment utilization, production costs, project margins, and profitability.
  • Review operational and financial reports to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal business partners.
  • Collaborate with estimating and sales teams on project planning, bid reviews, scheduling, and business development opportunities.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met through quality execution, communication, and responsive service.
  • Recruit, coach, develop, and retain a high-performing operations team.
  • Set clear expectations, conduct performance and development discussions, and hold employees accountable for results.

Position Overview

The Area Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable management of asphalt paving crews, utility crews, and asphalt plant operations within APAC Atlantic. This position provides leadership and direction to multiple operational teams while ensuring projects and production activities are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards. The Area Manager partners with estimating, sales, quality control, equipment, trucking, maintenance, and Environmental, Health and Safety teams to drive operational excellence, support business growth, and achieve financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

  • Demonstrate and promote a strong commitment to safety throughout all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable federal, state, local, OSHA, DOT, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct regular jobsite, plant, and operational inspections; support incident investigations and corrective actions.

Operational Leadership

  • Direct and oversee asphalt paving crews, utility crews, and asphalt plant operations across the assigned area.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production schedules to support safe and efficient execution.
  • Establish operating priorities, monitor performance, and implement actions to improve productivity, quality, and profitability.
  • Provide leadership and direction to superintendents, supervisors, foremen, plant personnel, and other operations employees.

Asphalt Plant Operations

Qualifications

Education/Experience
