Job summary

City of Hialeah is seeking a labor-intensive worker to perform a variety of maintenance tasks. Responsibilities include operating light equipment and performing city facility upkeep, as well as supporting event setup and cleanup for city-wide events.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to follow detailed instructions, and, if required, truck driving. A Florida driver’s license is mandatory; lifting up to 50 pounds is typical for this position.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school/institution or possession of a state high school equivalency diploma (GED) and twelve months experience in performing unskilled, light, or heavy manual labor.
• Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
• Have a current valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Operate light equipment as needed (mowers, sod cutters, mini excavators, backhoes).
• Carry out the delivery, setup and breakdown for city wide special events, as needed.
• Maintain street cleanliness and pick up debris.
• Cleans, maintains and performs minor repairs to city facilities, including sidewalks.
• Paints city facilities both exterior and interior.
• Collects debris and loads it into a truck.
• Loads and unloads trucks.
• Cut grass, weeds and brush and cares for shrubs, flowers and grass.
• Perform related duties to assist in disaster response and recovery.
• Sweep streets, gutters and alleys and load collected waste into a truck.
• Cleans storm sewers, culverts, drains and ditches.
• Move and carry heavy material such as pipe, lumber, gravel, sand and furniture.
• Paint over graffiti, as needed.

Salary Range

$14.00 - $50.00

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to perform light and heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.

Ability to understand and follow specific oral or written instructions.

Ability to drive a truck, if required.

Ability to acquire knowledge and proficiency in the use of common hand tools and mechanical equipment.

Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling.

Ability to lift heavy objects.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment such as hand tools.

Must be able to see and distinguish colors, hear and smell.

Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work involves walking more than a mile per day, climbing stairs and ladders, moving, reaching, handling, bending, and stooping for periods of time.

Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 25 to 50 pounds.

Minimum Training and Experience
