Job summary

Day Kimball Health in Putnam, CT is hiring a Constant Attendant for the Patient Staffing Department on a per diem basis with all shifts available. The role focuses on patient observation with two modes: standard observation and strict 1:1 observation for suicide precautions or behavior management.

You will support nursing staff, maintain safety, assist with daily activities, and help restrain or remove restraints as directed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of the hospital orientation within 3 months.
• Current BLS certification upon hire.
• Current NVCIT certification required upon hire or within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient within an arm’s length at all times.
• Remain alert and in visual contact with the patient.
• Assist the patient in daily activities as directed by the nurse.

As the Constant Attendant, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for…

• Although the name of the position is Constant Attendant (CA), the position has two distinct types of observation.
• As a CA, the observation of patients is less strict and could mean observing more than one patient.
• As a 1:1, this type of observation is strict and requires remaining with the patient at all times at an arm’s length. Patients on 1:1 observation are on suicide precautions or restrained for behavioral management.
• The expectation is to work 4 (four) shifts per month.
• Remain alert and in visual contact with the patient at all times.
• Assist the patient in daily activities as directed by the nurse.
• Assist the nurse in restraining and removing restraints.

1:1 Job Responsibilities:

• Keep patient within an arm’s length at all times, even when patient is bathing and toileting.
• Remain alert and in visual contact with the patient at all times.
• Assist the patient in daily activities as directed by the nurse.
• Assist the nurse in restraining and removing restraints.

Constant Attendant Education and Experience Requirements:

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred
• Successful completion of the hospital orientation for Constant Attendant within 3 months of the hire required.
• Current BLS certification upon hire
• Current NVCIT (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training) certification required upon hire or within 3 months of hire required.

Constant Attendant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Meets the physical demands of position.
• Demonstrates ability to cope and function under stress.
• Trained in non-violent crisis intervention.
