Job summary

Texas A&M University's Anthropology Department is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Principal Investigator and conservation team. The role is located in Washington, DC and is grant-funded, expected to conclude at the end of March 2027.

Responsibilities include aiding conservation, documenting activities, and supporting outreach efforts. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and familiarity with ship-related artifacts and methods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Physically able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to drive a Class-C vehicle to work site or supplies.
• Experience with maritime artifacts or ship structures is preferred.
• Knowledge of degradation processes in submerged artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with conservation efforts and documentation per industry standards.
• Support preparation and maintenance of the worksite for visitors.
• Train and supervise volunteers under the Principal Investigator's guidance.
