Job summary

The North Carolina Zoo is seeking a School Programs Manager to develop and oversee education programs for K-12 and afterschool audiences, including nature play spaces and educator workshops. This role collaborates across zoo departments to advance conservation education and digital content for the zoo app, while managing a team of staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Conservation, Education, Wildlife Science, or Interpretation and four years of museum or related work.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience.
• Experience designing nonformal education programs for schools and afterschool groups.
• Experience designing nature play areas and experiences.
• Experience developing content for educational technology (apps).

Responsibilities

• Oversees KidZone space and related programs, building community partnerships.
• Develops and maintains formal education programs for pre-K–12 onsite, offsite, and virtual.
• Markets and updates the Zoo app content and tablets fleet.
• Trains, coaches/mentors, supervises, and evaluates a team of four full-time staff and up to 15 seasonal educators and interns.
• Designs, delivers, and evaluates workshops on environmental and science topics for educators and students.
• Evaluates school, library, kidzone, afterschool programs and educator professional development workshops.
