Job summary

American Bird Conservancy seeks a Conservation Delivery Specialist for the RGJV collaboration in Alpine, Texas. The role focuses on habitat enhancement across streams and uplands, aligning with national conservation plans and working with RGJV, ABC, TPWD, and partners.

The position involves fieldwork, data collection, and coordination with multiple agencies to implement restoration projects and secure permits, with travel up to 25% and the possibility of collaboration with development efforts.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in biology, hydrology, environmental engineering, geology, environmental science, range science, or closely related field in natural resources management, or bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.
• Fundamental knowledge of water, environmental, agriculture and/or natural resource science.
• Excellent computer skills and ability to use databases and specialized software.
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with private landowners, land managers, advisory boards, universities, consultants, governmental and nongovernmental organizations and the general public.
• Knowledge of grassland and/or riparian ecology and research issues.
• Ability to design and write habitat management plans.
• Skill in reviewing, analyzing, and presenting technical data and documents.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare written correspondence.
• Ability to provide site investigations, sampling and analysis to inform restoration plans.
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
• Some experience with on-the-ground conservation planning and implementation preferred.
• Experience in hydrology, environmental engineering, ecosystem restoration or environmental planning in private, government, or academic arenas.
• Desire to improve habitat conditions and overall health and wellbeing of the environment.
• Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.
• Remote/hybrid employees must have stable high-speed internet.
• Authorized to work in the US or Permanent Resident.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Background screening required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach to landowners and partners and advise/recommend/support restoration and/or habitat management and improvement projects.
• Write conservation implementation plans including mapping, site assessments, and project details.
• Establish, improve, and maintain grassland habitats and riparian zones.
• Collect monitoring data for grassland and stream restoration projects.
• Implement low-tech, process-based stream restoration practices on private and public lands.
• Present papers, findings, research, and habitat conservation outcomes to peers and conservation groups.
• Operate heavy equipment in support of restoration plans.
• Lend technical assistance to partners with respect to stream restoration techniques.
• Coordinate and aid in preparation of appropriate permits for restoration activities.
• Work outdoors in difficult weather; travel up to 25%.
• Drive to sites over steep, uneven terrain.
• Manual labor including lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Operate excavators, track/dump trucks, skid steers, farm tractors, and power tools.
