Job summary

Washington, DC-based defence organisation is seeking a skilled policy and government relations professional to monitor the US defence budget process, track congressional reform, and provide strategic briefings. You will engage with legislators and staff, assess budgetary implications, and produce leadership reports on trends, risks and opportunities.

Travel within the US and to headquarters may be required.

Qualifications

  • Two years working with or within the United States Congress on defence, appropriations or foreign policy.
  • Track record in government relations: managing a legislative portfolio and communicating policy.
  • Ability to inform, educate and persuade elected officials and senior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse the US defence budget process from planning to execution.
  • Track congressional defence reform and assess its impact on transformation.
  • Report on congressional debate and decisions concerning Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic security.
  • Assess budget issues tied to US troop presence in Europe and burden-sharing.
  • Plan engagements with legislators and staff and manage relationships with Members of Congress.
  • Coordinate with US executive agencies and allied embassies to keep messaging coherent.
  • Produce regular reporting for senior leadership on trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Support delegations, senior visits and hearings, conferences and networking events.
  • Travel within the United States and to headquarters up to ~30 days/year.

Education

Master's degree in political science, international relations, economics or law
2+ years defence/foreign policy experience
Strong briefing and communication skills
Policy analysis and budget understanding
Liaising with Congress and policymakers
