Job summary

The Pastor of Congregational Care at Apex UMC serves as director of congregational care ministries, reporting directly to the Senior Pastor. This role works with the pastoral team to equip lay ministers and provide visitation and care for congregation members.

Responsibilities include visiting in homes, hospitals, and nursing facilities; conducting weddings/funerals with approval; coordinating with clergy; and leading the Care Team and volunteers.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of pastoral care experience, with CPE recommended.
• Ordination or licensing with sacramental privileges by the NC Conference or other denom body.
• Moderate computer literacy and willingness to learn new tools (including Trello).
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing for congregational care issues.
• Ability to conduct and lead virtual meetings/classes with available tech.
• Commitment to welcoming all persons regardless of race, color, creed, gender, or political views.
• Team player with staff; willing to support other church members.
• Pray regularly and actively develop one’s personal faith.
• Sense God’s calling to this ministry and eagerness to serve Christ.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for pastoral care needs and emergencies.
• Conduct pastoral visits in homes, hospitals, and nursing homes, including shut-ins.
• Conduct weddings or funerals with Senior Pastor approval.
• Collaborate with Apex UMC clergy to coordinate care responses.
• Provide leadership to the Congregational Care Team and recruit volunteers.
• Serve as liaison to the Stephen Ministry program and SAMI group.
• Foster staff relationships and participate in team activities.
• Plan and lead special worship services related to congregational care.
• Lead Congregational Care meetings with the Chair and other duties as assigned.
