Job summary

The Home for Little Wanderers in Boston, MA, is seeking a Residential Counselor to create a supportive, home-like environment for children aged 8-15. Responsibilities include supporting education and extracurricular activities, assisting with health and clinical services, and ensuring safety and well-being. Job description

Schedules
  • Fri – Sun 6AM-2PM (24 hours total)
  • Fri – Sun 2PM-10PM (24 hours total)
Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, structured, home-like living environment for children or adolescents aged 8-15 in transition back to their families or toward independent living.
  • Support children in participating fully in the community through school attendance and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist in providing clinical services, health services, psychiatric services, educational assistance, milieu therapy, and case‑management services as directed.
  • Under the direction of the Residential Supervisor, provide a safe, supportive environment for children.
  • Communicate with other counselors from previous shifts to ensure the continued flow of information and coordinate activity logs of daily living.
  • Participate in verbal de‑escalation and physical intervention with youth.
  • Multi‑task in a changing and fast‑paced treatment environment.
  • Receive and implement feedback in the moment and through a structured supervision process.
  • Ability to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as required.
Position Requirements
  • Passing the CORI/background check and having a valid ID.
  • Being physically active during an 8‑10 hour shift.
  • Capacity to participate in verbal de‑escalation and physical interventions with youth.
  • Multi‑tasking skills in a changing and fast‑paced treatment environment.
  • Ability to receive and implement feedback in real time and through structured supervision.
  • Availability to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as required.
Qualifications

  • Life experience with parenting and/or childcare preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
  • Continuous walking, standing, climbing, and lifting of objects for 6‑7 hour shifts. Ability to effectively restrain using proper TCI techniques when needed.

Pay Range

The pay range listed represents the company’s good faith estimate of the salary or wage range for this position at the time of posting, as required under applicable law. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including a candidate’s relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity relative to other employees in similar roles. Candidates with less directly related experience may be placed toward the lower end of the range, while those with extensive or specialized experience may be placed toward the higher end. Market conditions and budget considerations may also influence final pay decisions.
