Job summary

Compucom Systems, Inc. is seeking a Configuration Tech to assemble, configure, and deploy desktops, laptops, and tablets. You will verify hardware compatibility, run diagnostics, and ensure devices meet security standards before end-user delivery.

The role requires strong technical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction. Local travel across the United States may be involved.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, and architectures.
  • Strong experience supporting Windows, macOS, iPadOS and related endpoint tech.
  • Familiarity with endpoint management and deployment tools (Intune, SCCM/MECM, Autopilot).
  • Proficiency with diagnostic utilities and hardware testing software.
  • Understanding of ESD protection and proper handling.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, upgrade, and deploy desktops, laptops, and tablets.
  • Unbox, inspect, stage, and prepare end-user devices for deployment.
  • Deploy OS images, software, and security configurations via provisioning platforms.
  • Configure BIOS/UEFI, firmware, drivers, and updates.
  • Perform hardware diagnostics and testing to validate performance.
  • Verify network connectivity and device functionality.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, imaging, OS, and software deployment issues.
  • Record asset details in ITAM system.
  • Manage inventory and logistics to support deployment.
  • Receive, package, and ship equipment nationwide.

Job description

We’re looking for a Configuration Tech to join our team.

The Configuration Tech is responsible for the assembly, configuration, staging, testing, inventory management, and deployment of desktops, laptops, and tablets. The ideal candidate will ensure all devices meet organizational standards for hardware compatibility, security, performance, and reliability before being delivered to end users. This position requires a strong technical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, upgrade, and deploy custom desktop workstations, laptops, and tablets.

  • Unbox, inspect, stage, and prepare end-user devices for deployment according to established standards and procedures.

  • Deploy corporate operating system images, software packages, and security configurations using provisioning platforms such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM/MECM, Windows Autopilot, or bootable media.

  • Configure and maintain BIOS/UEFI settings, firmware, device drivers, operating systems, and security updates.

  • Perform hardware diagnostics, benchmark testing, stress testing, and power-on self-tests (POST) to validate device performance and stability.

  • Verify wired and wireless network connectivity and ensure all hardware components function correctly.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, imaging, operating system, and software deployment issues.

  • Accurately record serial numbers, asset tags, device configurations, and deployment details within the organization's IT Asset Management (ITAM) system.

  • Manage inventory levels, equipment stock, and logistics to support ongoing deployment requirements.

  • Receive, package, and ship equipment to locations throughout the United States.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure workspace while adhering to company safety, security, and quality standards.

  • Follow Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) handling procedures and best practices to protect sensitive electronic components.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, and modern device architectures.

  • Strong experience supporting and configuring Windows, macOS, iPadOS, and related endpoint technologies.

  • Familiarity with endpoint management and deployment tools including Microsoft Intune, SCCM/MECM, Microsoft Autopilot, or similar platforms.

  • Proficiency using diagnostic utilities, benchmarking tools, hardware testing software, and basic electronic troubleshooting equipment.

  • Thorough understanding of ESD protection protocols and hardware handling best practices.

  • Experience installing, configuring, and supporting commercial software applications and IT infrastructure technologies.

  • Basic knowledge of scripting or programming concepts, with the aptitude and willingness to expand technical skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and business requirements.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Proficiency with standard business productivity tools and the ability to quickly learn new technologies.

Wage Range :

The hourly rate for this position is between $15.00 - $20.00 per hour, unless the local minimum wage is higher. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
