Job summary

Brightline Trains is hiring a Conductor to manage trains from Florida and between Orlando, Miami Central Stations. You will assist locomotive engineers to ensure safe, on-schedule operation and be trained to operate trains after a performance test.

The role requires certification CFR Title 49, Part 242, or 3+ years of railroad experience, with weekend/nights and on-call flexibility. You will support guest service, safety, and operational duties across multiple station areas.

Qualifications

  • Certified as a train Conductor (CFR Title 49, Part 242) OR three (3) or more years operational railroad experience.
  • Willingness to weekend/night shifts and 40+ hours per week; on-call availability.

Responsibilities

  • Secures train movement orders and ensures clear understanding by Brightline teammates.

  • Utilizes technology to track service requests and take action.

  • Prepares reports on problems such as accidents, signaling issues, delays, or guest concerns.
  • Performs end-of-duty reports and assists with train cleanliness for guest presentation.
  • Delivers customer service and meets guest needs in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Monitors public address announcements and guest welcome at stations, especially for guests with special needs or heavy luggage.

Your Purpose

As an essential member of the Transportation Team, you will manage our trains from either our Orlando Vehicle Maintenance Facility or Miami Station and in between our Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Aventura and Miami Central Stations. This includes assisting the Locomotive Engineers in order for the train to operate safely, efficiently, and on schedule. You play a key role in the success of Brightline. Brightline will train you and after passing a skills performance test, you will become certified to operate our trains in this critical position of Conductor.

Your Purpose

Your Role
  • Secures train movement orders and ensures clear understanding by your Brightline teammates.
  • Ensures that all activities of the onboard team are safe and carried out to Brightline's high standards.
  • Responsible for safe handling of proper train door opening/closing procedures.
  • Ensures pre-determined service requests are understood and carried out and can utilize technology to keep track of requests and action them.
  • Operates switches within yards and possibly on main tracks.
  • Prepares reports regarding any problems encountered, such as accidents, signaling problems, unscheduled stops, mechanical failures, delays, or any issues affecting guests.
  • Performs assigned end-of-duty reports as required.
  • Assists with light cleaning and making the train presentable for guests at station turn-around and final terminals.
  • Delivers customer service to Brightline guests: it is an essential part of the Conductor’s role to identify and meet Brightline guests’ needs and expectations, taking the lead in dealing with customers in an open, friendly, confident, professional, and helpful manner at all times while on duty.
  • Works with the rest of the onboard team to ensure that all of the following items are consistently monitored:
  • Public address announcements are delivered, providing friendly journey information and a positive message to guests.
  • An at-station welcome is shown to guests, particularly paying attention to those with special needs, elderly customers, children, and customers with heavy luggage.
  • Onboard cleanliness meets Brightline standards.
  • Solving guest problems by using their initiative and discretion to ensure that all Brightline guests’ expectations are met.
  • Ensuring that all possible assistance and information is provided to guests during periods of service disruption.

Experience & Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Certified as a train Conductor (CFR Title 49, Part 242) OR three (3) or more years operational railroad experience.
  • You can work weekends and nights and possibly more than 40 hours a week. Brightline trains willoperate on a continuous, set schedule.On-call availability is a necessity.
  • You have sound judgment, thinking and acting independently, expressing clear and effective verbal communication skills to interact with guests, crew members, and others to ensure responsible, safe, and efficient train movements and customer service.
  • You make logical and prompt choices, conclusions, decisions, etc., based on information provided, especially when in emergency situations.
  • You operate with integrity, have a solid work ethic, and can get the job done without direct supervision.
  • You live and breathe the operating rules and practices including physical characteristics, safety rules, and emergency procedures.
  • You have full mobility in a seated position facing forward and to the side; the physical agility to easily get off/on train equipment, manipulate between cars, bend, reach, stoop, easily and safely ride the side of trains, and lift a variety of equipment.

  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills; including the ability to provide written and verbal direction effectively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, specifically, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Managerial Responsibility
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide training and/or work direction to other teammates within the organization in the management and execution of their areas of responsibility.
Work Environment

Works in a clean, air-conditioned office space, free of noise, dust, and humidity.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Occasional lifting of light items required. No specific vision requirements.
