Position

HPTech is currently seeking a highly qualified Concrete Research Technician (CRT) to support advanced laboratory research activities in a state-of-the-art Concrete Laboratory located at a government research facility. The candidate will assist concrete research engineers in the execution of laboratory research projects and support daily laboratory operations to ensure safe, efficient, and orderly functioning of the facility.

Responsibilities

Assisting with preparation and execution of concrete experiments; constructing formwork; batching and mixing concrete; coring and preparing specimens for laboratory testing; installing instrumentation under the supervision of a concrete research engineer; and maintaining laboratory cleanliness, organization, and readiness for testing activities. Additional duties include handling materials and equipment, operating forklifts or cranes as needed, performing basic rigging activities, and supporting movement and setup of test assemblies and laboratory apparatus.

Required Experience and Skills

The position requires familiarity with laboratory safety practices, specimen preparation procedures, and execution of standardized concrete testing methods used in research and performance evaluation of highway materials.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma required, Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a construction materials technician or concrete laboratory technician.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing concrete test procedures in accordance with ASTM International and AASHTO standards, including ASTM C39, ASTM C78, ASTM C150, ASTM C157, ASTM C469, ASTM C496, ASTM C512, ASTM C595, ASTM C1556, ASTM C1585, ASTM C1856, AASHTO TP119, and AASHTO PP84.
  • Experience with concrete specimen preparation, curing, handling, and laboratory equipment setup.
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills.
  • Strong team-oriented and collaborative abilities.
  • ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level 2 certification preferred.
Location

This position is based in McLean, VA.
