Job summary

Four Corners Materials in Durango, CO is seeking a Quality Control Technician to perform ASTM tests on aggregates and asphalt under the supervision of the Quality Control Manager.

You will draft reports, assist with mix designs, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with specifications and safety. Some night shifts may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience in construction quality control testing.
  • Preferred: ACI Level 1 Certification.

Job description

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Quality Control Manager, the Quality Control Technician will follow established policies and procedures, perform ASTM tests on raw materials and concrete to ensure product quality and conformance to specifications, and assist customers with questions regarding mix designs and specifications.

Wage Range

$22.00–$25.00 per hour, dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations, reporting unsafe practices promptly.
  • Perform required ASTM tests on aggregates and asphalt.
  • Conduct aggregate sieve analysis and draft reports to ensure compliance to specifications.
  • Maintain equipment in good operating condition and calibrate correctly.
  • Coordinate concrete mix‑design adjustments with Plant Foreman/Batch personnel during production.
  • Provide quality customer service, answering questions and complaints professionally.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance; duties may include night work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education / Experience
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience in construction quality control testing.
  • Preferred: Experience in the building materials/construction industry.
  • Preferred: ACI Level 1 Certification.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within a team and assist with other duties as required.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and swing shift when necessary.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Read, interpret and follow documents and procedures such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Operate a computer and software applications; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Be self‑sufficient and perform tasks without immediate supervision.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees and managers.
  • Demonstrate proper etiquette, representing the company professionally and courteously.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, recognizing discrepancies.
  • Apply general knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Perform required field and laboratory tests and procedures per applicable standards.
  • Organize, maintain and communicate statistical data related to the Quality Control department.
Physical Requirements
  • Full range of body motion, including handling hand and power tools, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination.
  • Ability to stand, bend over, reach, crawl, climb, grasp, kneel, squat, and twist.
  • Often required to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May require working at heights at times.
  • Require normal vision and hearing.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Position is safety sensitive.
Work Environment

Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
