Job summary

Morgan Corp. Industrial Division seeks a Concrete Project Engineer to support project managers and superintendents in planning, coordination, and execution of industrial structural concrete projects in Spartanburg, SC and surrounding southeastern sites.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, coordinating RFIs and submittals, tracking budgets and schedules, and ensuring quality-control and safety compliance on site. Requires a degree in CM/CE and 2–5 years in similar roles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant construction experience may be considered.
  • Two to five years of experience as a Field Engineer, Project Engineer, or in a comparable construction role preferred.
  • Experience with structural concrete, industrial construction, heavy civil construction, or other self-perform concrete operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of concrete construction practices including formwork, reinforcing steel, concrete placement, finishing, curing, embeds, anchor bolts, construction joints, and quality-control requirements preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting structural and civil construction drawings, specifications, contracts, reinforcing steel details, and project schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Superintendents on the daily administration, planning, coordination, and execution of industrial structural concrete projects.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project requirements related to concrete construction.
  • Prepare and maintain RFIs, submittals, change documentation, project logs, sketches, and other project records.
  • Support project cost control, procurement, and change management by preparing quantity takeoffs, scopes, and pricing for materials, equipment, purchase orders, and subcontracts; track project budgets, job costs, quantities, production, and labor productivity; and assist with forecasting and project status reporting.
  • Coordinate concrete-related submittals and procurement, including concrete mix designs, reinforcing steel, embeds, anchor bolts, waterstops, formwork systems, curing materials, coatings, and other concrete accessories.
  • Review reinforcing steel shop drawings, embed drawings, anchor bolt layouts, and other supplier or subcontractor drawings for general conformance with the contract documents and field requirements.
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with preconstruction and concrete work planning, including constructability reviews, work sequencing, logistics, formwork and shoring, reinforcing and embed coordination, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and other construction means and methods.
  • Coordinate layout and installation requirements for embedded items, anchor bolts, sleeves, blockouts, penetrations, waterstops, and interfaces with structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping, electrical systems, and other trades.
  • Identify conflicts, discrepancies, constructability concerns, and work that differs from the contract documents or approved scope, and coordinate appropriate documentation and follow-up action.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of project schedules, short-term look-ahead schedules, concrete pour schedules, and material procurement schedules.
  • Coordinate concrete quality-control activities, including pre-pour inspections, placement and testing activities, and required quality documentation to verify reinforcing steel, formwork, embeds, anchor bolts, waterstops, construction joints, and completed work comply with project requirements.
  • Assist with resolution and documentation of concrete quality issues, nonconforming work, testing deficiencies, dimensional discrepancies, and required corrective actions.
  • Prepare project correspondence and status reports, participate in project meetings, and document decisions, action items, and follow-up responsibilities.
  • Assemble, organize, and maintain accurate project plans, records, logs, inspection and testing documentation, as-built information, and closeout materials.
  • Support company safety policies, OSHA requirements, environmental compliance, and project-specific procedures; promptly communicate personnel concerns, complaints, injuries, and other significant project issues.

Description

The Morgan Corp. Industrial Division is a heavy industrial general contractor capable of self-performing structural concrete, structural steel, equipment installation, piping, geostructural, and electrical scopes. We target power, mining, process chemical, pharmaceutical, and similar markets. We pride ourselves on performing quality work safely by developing and executing the best plan.

We are currently looking for a Concrete Project Engineer who will support project managers and superintendents in the planning, coordination, and execution of Morgan Corp.’s industrial structural concrete construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Superintendents on the daily administration, planning, coordination, and execution of industrial structural concrete projects.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project requirements related to concrete construction, including foundations, slabs, walls, elevated structures, equipment foundations, pits, trenches, and other reinforced concrete structures.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant construction experience may be considered.
  • Two to five years of experience as a Field Engineer, Project Engineer, or in a comparable construction role preferred.
  • Experience with structural concrete, industrial construction, heavy civil construction, or other self-perform concrete operations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of concrete construction practices, including formwork, reinforcing steel, concrete placement, finishing, curing, embeds, anchor bolts, construction joints, and quality-control requirements preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting structural and civil construction drawings, specifications, contracts, reinforcing steel details, and project schedules.
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs, cost and production tracking, procurement, project documentation, and construction administration.
  • Familiarity with concrete testing and inspection procedures and applicable concrete construction standards preferred.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Position must follow Morgan Corp.'s Fit for Duty Physical Program.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work for extended periods at project sites located predominantly throughout the southeastern United States, including extended hours, overtime, weekends, and/or night shifts as project schedules require.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions common to industrial and heavy construction.
  • Strong commitment to Morgan Corp.'s safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate with field operations, and resolve problems involving several variables with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
