Job summary

Kiewit Corporation is hiring a General Concrete Laborer to place and finish poured concrete surfaces on busy construction sites. You will spread, level, and smooth concrete, grind rough areas, and ensure joints are formed correctly. <\/p>

Responsibilities include monitoring curing conditions, using vibrators, and adhering to safety protocols while working in outdoor environments. Applicants must pass drug testing and be able to work overtime and weekends as needed. <\/p>

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with field experience preferred.
• Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing and fit-for-duty medical exams.
• Proficiency in safe, efficient use of hand and power tools and layout tools.
• Able to work in outdoor weather conditions and adhere to safety rules.

Job description

Place and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand tools. Place concrete for walls and footings. Grind and rub hardened concrete to a uniform surface.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Move discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms then spread, level, and smooth concrete; rough surface with a broom if plans call for it.
• Check forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
• Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete by using pneumatic chisels, power grinders, and/or hand tools.
• Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
• Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process.
• Utilize concrete vibrators to consolidate concrete.
• Verify equipment and materials are used properly and report unsafe conditions to management.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area
• Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
• Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required
• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing

Work Settings & Job Requirements

• The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site, so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions
• Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
• May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access
• required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
• Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
• May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction/industrial site
• Must have required tools
