Job summary

McAlvain Construction, a Big-D Company, is seeking an experienced Concrete Estimator to join our Boise team. The role analyzes projects, leveraging past performance and relevant experience to develop detailed, accurate estimates.

The successful candidate will read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil drawings, perform concrete takeoffs, and coordinate with vendors and project teams. OSHA 10 preferred or willing to obtain, with strong math and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of estimating experience, preferably in concrete or self-perform trades.
• Proficient in OST, Bluebeam, Excel, and construction management platforms (Procore, Vista).
• Familiar with CSI divisions, cost coding, and unit pricing.
• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil drawings.
• Experience with hard bids, negotiated work, and design-build delivery models.
• Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
• OSHA 10 certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Request and analyze pricing from vendors for concrete related items (e.g. ready mixed concrete & reinforcing).
• Complete accurate takeoffs of concrete related items using Tekla (3D) and On-Screen Takeoff (2D). Organize and enter quantities into estimating software using historical production rates.
• Analyze and understand project specific constraints that might impact historical production rates.
• Schedule and run estimate review meetings with project team members.
• Understands turnover process and conveys project information to the project team.
• Participates in forecast meetings and tracks budget vs. actual costs through construction.

The basic function of our Concrete Estimator is to analyze a project and use past performance along with relevant experience to put together the most detailed and accurate estimate possible.

Experience & Education

• 4-year degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.

• Must have the ability to read and understand project documents including blueprints, specifications, and others
• Must have the ability to measure, understand and accurately take off material quantities necessary to construct the project
• Good time management skills
• Industry knowledge and aware of current market conditions
• Excellent computer skills using PC based software including Windows Office and Bluebeam
• Proficient in OnScreen Takeoff and other estimating software
• Experience with 3D modeling software (CAD, Revit, Tekla, etc) is a plus
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
