Job summary

Goodwill Houston is seeking a Computer Works Technician to support and maintain retail sales computer systems within the Donated Goods Program. You will install, diagnose, repair, maintain, and upgrade hardware while ensuring optimal performance and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, OS installation, minor upgrades, and assisting with pricing and stocking components to maximize store efficiency and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Certification in Technology Repair (A+ Certification or equivalent) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate donated computers and assess their value.
• Refurbish computer equipment to restore units to like-new condition for the sales floor.
• Install an operating system on computers and configure to CW standards.
• Perform minor hardware upgrades as needed.
• Troubleshoot repairs, maintain, install, and test computer equipment and peripherals.
• Warranty maintenance on machines bought from CW.
• Assist customers with questions and provide support.
• Maintain workstation and stay up-to-date with software on PCs.
• Package, price, and stock components and software for the stores.

Position Summary

Support and maintain retail sales computer systems within GWH’s Computer Works area. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal performance. Troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion. To ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and stewardship of CW to maximize profitability and increase training opportunities. Process and display merchandise and provide excellent customer service.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Evaluate donated computers and assess their value.
• Perform the refurbishment of computer equipment to restore units to like-new working conditions and/or appearance for the sales floor.
• Install an operating system on computers & configure it to CW standards.
• Perform minor upgrades as needed.
• Troubleshoot repairs, maintain, install, and perform testing activities on various computer equipment & peripherals.
• Warranty maintenance on machines bought from CW.
• Answer technical questions and provide customer support.
• Maintain workstation.
• Access the internet to obtain technical and component information (drivers & driver software).
• Package, price, and stock components and software for the stores.
• Perform other duties as directed by management to support evolving organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to understand safety instructions, standard operating procedures, and workplace communications.
• Certification in Technology Repair (A+ Certification or equivalent) is preferred.

Two (2) Years Of Experience Is Preferred.

Must have reliable transportation.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for current or future employment. GWH does not offer visa sponsorship for employment purposes.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• This role is physically demanding and fast-paced.
• Regular twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and, occasionally, lift/move items up to 100 lbs. (e.g., large bags of donations, televisions, furniture, etc.)
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Moderate indoor noise with periodic exposure to outside temperatures.
