Job summary

Ford's Advanced Technology Platforms (ATP) Sight organization is seeking a Hardware Engineer to own the hardware backbone of our computer-vision manufacturing products. You will specify, test, and deploy cameras, edge compute devices, and network infrastructure on Ford plant floors globally.

You will collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and plant personnel to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable hardware across Sight.IQ and related platforms.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years specifying, testing, or deploying industrial cameras or edge devices.
  • Experience with machine vision hardware and edge compute equipment.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and troubleshooting at packet level.

Job description

Ford's Advanced Technology Platforms (ATP) Sight organization is seeking a Hardware Engineer to own the hardware backbone of our computer-vision manufacturing products. This role will support all Sight vision products, with primary near-term focus on Sight.IQ, and will extend support to Sense product hardware needs as those platforms mature. You will be the technical owner for cameras, edge compute devices, power supply mechanism, and network infrastructure deployed on Ford plant floors globally — spanning specification, sourcing, testing, safety/regulatory certification, and fleet management once systems are in production.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience specifying, testing, or deploying industrial cameras, machine vision hardware, or edge compute devices.
  • Working knowledge of industrial networking concepts (Ethernet/GigE, network switches, jumbo frames, packet-level troubleshooting).
  • Familiarity with safety/regulatory certification processes (UL/cUL) for electrical and electronic hardware.
  • Experience with messaging/integration protocols common in industrial vision systems (e.g. MQTT) and PLC interfacing concepts.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills; comfortable working with software engineers, product managers, and plant floor personnel.
