Woodlawn Middle School is seeking a Computer Science Teacher for the 2026/2027 school year. You will deliver rigorous CS instruction and work with the STEM team to shape a cohesive 6–8 curriculum.

The role requires a valid IL educator license, at least 2 years of urban teaching experience, and a commitment to equity and professional growth. Starting Aug 1, 2026, salary ranges from $55,000 to $70,000 per year.

The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. The middle school currently educates students in grades six through eight and assists students in the following:

• Improving teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leaders

Position Summary:

This position will deliver ambitious computer science instruction that not only incorporates evidence-based analysis of practice in order to ensure that all students can achieve at high levels, but also provides a stimulating, challenging, and productive learning environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned computer science instruction that develops students’ digital literacy, and critical thinking skills while ensuring equitable access to grade-level content for all learners
• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and the other staff members of the middle school's STEM Department to develop and maintain a cohesive curriculum sequence from grades 6-8
• Build a classroom culture grounded in the habits of mind, work, and heart by maintaining high expectations, fostering student ownership, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
• Use student achievement data, formative assessments, and evidence-based instructional practices to plan differentiated lessons, monitor progress, and accelerate growth for diverse learners
• Engage in continuous professional growth by collaborating with colleagues, participating in coaching cycles, and contributing to the campus as a professional development site for teachers and school leaders
• Passionate about the difference between mastery of devices and in-depth knowledge about computers and computing
• Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement
• At least 2 years of urban teaching experience
• Previous experience working with children from culturally diverse backgrounds
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proven program planning and development experience
• Reflective and receptive to providing and receiving professional feedback and coaching
• Commitment to the success and achievement of all students
• Proven commitment to curriculum and assessment planning and professional development
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners
• Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders

Salary Range : $55,000.00 - $70,000.00

The included pay rate or range represents the University of Chicago Charter School's good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting. The salary will be commensurate of years of teaching experience and education.
