Candidates with research in Quantum Information Systems, High‑Performance Computing, and Augmented/Virtual Reality are of particular interest.
The CS department and the Styslinger College of Engineering are seeking a faculty member who will contribute to both: (1) building upon existing strengths in the department, college, and university and (2) expanding the scope of research within the department, college, and UA as a whole. This posting is specific for candidates applying for a position at the rank of Associate Professor. Applicants with appropriate experience, a strong record of scholarly productivity and impact, and a vision for a long‑term research agenda are encouraged to apply.
Candidates with prestigious achievements in their field and an exceptional national and international reputation may be considered for the Endowed Shelby Distinguished Professor position. Those wishing to be considered for such an appointment should indicate this in their cover letter.
The CS department and College consider teaching, research, and service as the three critical and complementary portions of their overall mission. Candidates must demonstrate a clear potential to successfully develop, lead, mentor, and extramurally fund a highly productive research group with significant scholarly impact in a focus area with long‑term potential. Ability to collaborate with existing faculty and potential colleagues across campus is also highly desirable.
Teaching responsibilities will include development and instruction of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the faculty member’s area(s) of expertise, as well as courses that support the CS core degree programs. A strong record of teaching and commitment to educational excellence are required.
Required application documents include: (1) a cover letter that includes the department name, the rank of position for which the candidate is applying, and a brief description of the area(s) of specialization; (2) a resume/CV; (3) a three‑ to five‑page statement of research interests and plans; (4) a one‑ to two‑page statement of three teaching interests and plans; and (5) the names and contact information for at least four professional references.
Review of applications will begin immediately. Applications are preferred on or before November 21, 2025 to receive fullest consideration, but the search will continue until the positions are filled. A position start date of August 16, 2026 would be typical, but flexibility with respect to start date is possible. Applications close: 31 Mar 2026 Central Daylight Time.
Background Investigation Statement: Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre‑employment background investigation and information obtained from social media and other internet sources. A prior conviction reported as a result of the background investigation does not automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. A candidate with a prior conviction or negative behavioral red flags will receive an individualized review before a hiring decision is made.
