Job description

About San Francisco Compute

San Francisco Compute exists to give ambitious teams large scale supercomputers without taking on a catastrophic balance sheet risk. Most GPU clouds force you to sign long term contracts with no way out. If you underbuy, you miss the window. If you overbuy, you’ll blow up with no way out. It’s a desperate gamble that San Francisco Compute does not force you to play.

Originally, SFC was an AI lab that bought too big of a GPU cluster and was forced to sublease it or go under. Today, we build data centers, supercomputers, and then lease those machines on contracts that let our customers sublease. More than anyone else in the industry, we deeply felt the pain and fear of being forced to bet the farm with your neocloud vendor. To make it possible to sublease, we invented the first compute market and became the first one to offer physical settlement. That means we operate GPU clusters like a neocloud and derisk our customers like a market.

Customers buying GPU clusters don’t want to work through a network of brokers. They want to transact with the folks that have the keys to the cluster and can own the SLA.

To keep the industry safe from unnecessary risk, SFC needs to scale fast. To do that, we serve financially motivated parties as a technical partner to build, operate, & lease supercomputers on their behalf. Basically, we help folks who want an economic return build GPU clusters on their balance sheet, but operated in full by us. That allows us to retain the technical control needed to operate a cloud, but scale fast like a market. SFC’s ability to offer subleasing can significantly increase the levered returns for cluster owners. Our hybrid model out-performs brokered contracts or other “compute markets”, who have to go through a network of counterparties to solve problems. It also lets us design custom solutions for our customers, like clusters deployed in regions next to your dataset or physical eval set or a large CPU fleet deployed colocated with your GPU cluster.

Our team includes senior & technical leadership from places like Lambda, Crusoe, Digital Ocean, AWS, and Hut8. Our CTO is the cofounder and former CEO of Voltage Park. In prior roles, our team has deployed 8GW of datacenter capacity & hundreds of thousands of GPUs. We’ve been described as having “the highest talent density in the space.” If you are an honorable, gritty person with eyes wide open & good epistemics, who wants to see AI go right, we’d love to work with you. There has never been a more critical moment in history and it is up to us to shape it on behalf of those who come after us.

About The Role

We're hiring a Deployment Project Manager for the Compute Deals team. This is the person who owns what happens post-deal signature: standing up clusters, driving them through bring-up and validation, and carrying them to successful customer delivery. This is not a deal-sourcing or procurement role, but you will run point on every workstream necessary to execute a compute partnership contract successfully, working with Engineering and GTM until the cluster is live and the customer is running on it.

What You Will Do

Cross-Functional & Customer Coordination

  • Serve as the connective tissue between Compute Deal Lead, Engineering, and GTM, translating technical status into clear updates for internal stakeholders

  • Coordinate compute provider-facing and customer-facing communication on deployment status and timelines, in partnership with Compute Deal Lead and GTM

  • Influence technical and operational decisions across teams that don't report to you

Partner & Account Management

  • Own internal and external partner communication for every active deployment, keeping customers, providers, and internal stakeholders aligned on status, timelines, and next steps

  • Coordinate directly with the Head of Compute Deals on contract handover, making sure deal terms, commitments, and customer context carry cleanly into the deployment phase

  • Flag account-level risks or opportunities back to the Head of Compute Deals early, so the deal team can get ahead of them

Process & Reporting

  • Run tight, recurring reporting on deployment stages, blockers, and upcoming milestones. This includes building dashboard, trackers, and standups

  • Drive better handoffs from deal teams into deployment, tightening the contract-to-kickoff transition

Deployment Ownership

  • Own end-to-end program execution for signed compute deals, from contract handoff through rack-and-stack, bring-up, validation, and customer go-live

  • Lead multiple concurrent GPU cluster deployments at varying stages, sequencing dependencies across hardware delivery, site readiness, networking, and software bring-up

  • Define delivery milestones and acceptance criteria for each deployment, and hold the team to them

BOM & Technical Validation

  • Read and reconcile Bills of Materials against contracted specs, catching mismatches, substitutions, or non-standard components

  • Work directly with Engineering to understand rack configurations, node specs, and network topology well enough to ask the right technical questions, not just relay them

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years in technical program or project management. Ideally in data center, infrastructure, hardware, telecom but not required

  • A track record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder programs over months, not days

  • Excellent cross-functional communication; equally credible with hardware engineers and commercial/deal leads

  • High ownership and bias to action, comfortable escalating early rather than waiting for a problem to resolve itself

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in GPU/compute infrastructure terminology (NVL72, HGX, DGX, InfiniBand, rack/node topology)

  • Demonstrated ability to read and work with a Bill of Materials; you understand rack configurations, node specs, and networking components well enough to catch a discrepancy before it derails a build

  • Experience with data center buildouts, colocation deployments, or large-scale GPU cluster commissioning specifically

  • Exposure to contract or deal-desk handoffs, even if not an expert in deal structuring

What This Role Is Not

  • It is not a deal-sourcing, negotiation, or contract-drafting role

  • It is not a narrowly scoped procurement or back-office operations role

  • It is not a people-management role on day one
