COMPUTATIONAL MATHEMATICS ANALYST

The Computational Mathematics Analyst is responsible for providing research, models, analyses, and reports to support the development, communication, and implementation of DPC’s power supply strategy and resource planning work. This role will collaborate with Financial Planning & Analysis, Enterprise Risk Management, Energy Marketing, and other stakeholders across DPC to deliver impactful results and to create member value.

The Impact You'll Make In This Role:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, distribute, and present technical analyses on energy markets on a routine or ad hoc basis. This would include analysis of forward physical and financial energy markets, day-ahead and real-time markets, ancillary service markets, financial transmission markets, capacity auctions, coal markets, natural gas markets, and fuel transportation.
  • Develop highly complex and rigorous custom analytical tools, Monte Carlo simulation models, and algorithms to support analyses. This includes the ability to mine data from internal and external sources to support tools and models.
  • Create reports which provide market insight for internal consumption through personal analysis, industry trends, or in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with others to translate energy and capacity market changes into strategic opportunities while analyzing the merits of potential strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining a deep knowledge of energy and capacity markets, options theory and pricing, wholesale trading practices, hedging, and internal budgeting/forecasting processes.

Your Experience and Expertise:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Mathematical Economics, or Statistics (Data Science), MS plus is preferred. At least one year of applied research experience is required together with a demonstrated ability to build and use complex mathematical and statistical models.

Skills:

  • Must have strong analytical skills and interests.
  • Strong knowledge of differential equations, numerical analysis, optimization methods, stochastic analysis, linear algebra, and Monte Carlo simulation
  • Ability to prepare complex reports and correspondence to meet special needs and requests
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Requires strong Excel and modeling skills
  • Strongly prefer candidates with experience in PowerBI, R, Python, SQL, or other programing tools
