Job Locations: US-CA-Marina

ID: 2026-4889

Category: Composites Manufacturing

Type: Regular Full-Time

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Layup Scheduling Specialist. This role will manage the production control board in the composite shop to ensure smooth execution of build plans on the floor. The position requires someone with higher-level critical thinking skills to quickly adapt to a fast-paced and dynamically changing environment. A high-level understanding of the composite layup process is necessary to maintain the schedule board. At times this role will require complex decision‑making involving schedules, support teams, environment, and physical assets. This role enables composite hand layup technicians to focus exclusively on lamination workmanship, supporting takt time and part quality.

Shift Schedules below:

1st shift – Monday – Thursday: 7AM - 5:30PM

2nd shift – Monday – Thursday: 5:30PM – 4:00AM

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Composite planning team to ensure scheduled work is flowing smoothly through the shop with little to no downtime.
  • Work directly with MFG Eng. to highlight workcell constraints and elevate replacement of equipment as needed.
  • Work with Team Leads and Group Lead to ensure technicians work on parts appropriate to their skill level.
  • Develop systems to document part complexity, team member skill level, and workcell set up ability.
  • Maintain physical board – print Job, Team Member, and Behind Cause Code magnets, move scheduled work as dictated by schedule change/work stoppage/behind condition, wipe down dry erase and keep white board generally clean, and maintain other physical media posted on board.
  • Request the preparation of lamination molds and ensure material is kitted for parts scheduled to be built.
  • Maintain 4S+S and organization.
  • Attend daily team coordination standups.
  • Respond quickly to technician requests (tools, parts, etc.) and support in a leadership capacity to guide team members to solutions.
Required
  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Intermediate computer skills for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
  • Previous planning or project management experience (1+ years).
  • Experience working in fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environments (2+ years).
  • Demonstrated abilities following standardized work instructions, technical requirements, and executing standard processes.
  • Lifting of 50 lbs. aided or unaided throughout the day.
  • Must wear PPE when required.
  • Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composite materials.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to become forklift, crane, respirator and/or equipment certified.
  • Ensures adherence to company policies and work rules, as well as ensuring a safe work environment is maintained.
  • Must have and maintain excellent work attendance.
  • Must be able to think through problems and stay with them until they are resolved.
  • Must be a self‑starter, motivated, and able to work alone or with other team members.
  • Strive to continually improve quality, 5S, and productivity within areas of responsibility, knowledge, skills, and experience. Demonstration through participation of FMDS, shop cleanings, internal audits, etc.
Desired
