LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, Inc. is seeking detail-oriented Components Lab Technicians in Birmingham, AL. The role focuses on preparing a safe blood supply by processing, inspecting, and storing blood components in a regulated lab setting.

Responsibilities include operating lab equipment, entering data into the blood banking system, and maintaining records with emphasis on accuracy, attendance, and adherence to safety procedures. Evening shifts and rotating weekends/holidays are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to work evening shifts and varying schedules.
• Basic computer and math skills.
• Ability to read and follow instructions and laboratory procedures.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and time-management skills.
• Manual dexterity to operate laboratory equipment and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Previous laboratory experience preferred; no prior laboratory experience required.

Responsabilités

• Process whole blood into components and operate centrifuges, sterile devices, and filters.
• Store components properly and manage quarantined products; label, release, or discard as trained.

• Complete required training and maintain reliable attendance for evening shifts and rotating weekends/holidays.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is hiring detail-oriented Components Lab Technicians in Birmingham, AL.

Schedule and Availability

Must be available to consistently work evening shifts, including weekdays, rotating weekends, and holidays. Scheduled workdays will vary based on operational needs.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Help prepare a safe blood supply for patients by carefully handling, processing, and storing blood components intended for transfusion. You’ll follow established procedures in a regulated laboratory where accuracy, teamwork, and dependable attendance are essential.

What You'll Do

• Receive and inspect blood and blood components to confirm they meet acceptance and safety requirements; report concerns to laboratory leadership.
• Process whole blood into separate components and operate laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, sterile connection devices, and blood filters.
• Store blood components properly and manage quarantined products; label, release, or discard products as trained and authorized under LifeSouth procedures.
• Accurately enter product information into LifeSouth’s blood banking software and maintain processing records and required quality control documentation.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas while following LifeSouth’s safety requirements and standard operating procedures.
• Complete required training, communicate with your team, and maintain reliable attendance for evening shifts and varying schedules, including rotating weekends and holidays.

What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation; must meet and maintain LifeSouth’s driver eligibility requirements.
• Willingness and ability to work evening shifts and varying schedules, including rotating weekends and holidays, with consistent attendance.
• Basic computer and math skills, with the ability to maintain accurate, organized records.
• Ability to read and follow instructions, safety rules, and laboratory procedures.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and time-management skills.
• Manual dexterity to operate laboratory equipment and ability to perform physical duties, including standing, walking, repetitive movements, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Previous laboratory experience preferred; no prior laboratory experience required.
