Job summary

Garmin is seeking a full-time Component Engineer at its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. You will support multiple departments through component library management, second source identification, and improving component selection.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality Assurance and suppliers to ensure high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective components, while releasing and maintaining specs and data for assigned components.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent education/experience.
  • GPA 3.0+ as general guideline for academics.
  • Understanding of key electrical component characteristics.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical component applications and PC usage.
  • Experience with SMT processes and manufacturing familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure components used are high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective.
  • Release and maintain component specification drawings and data.
  • Promote preferred components and advise on alternate passive components when asked.
  • Notify stakeholders of basic PCNs and changes.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Purchasing, QA and suppliers on component issues.
  • Complete small projects within commodities.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Component Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting multiple departments through component library management including second source identification, communicating supplier/part status, and providing resources to improve component selection.

Essential Functions
  • Participates in ensuring that components used in Garmin products are high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective
  • Releases and maintains component specification control drawings and component data for assigned components
  • Promotes the use of preferred components and provides alternate passive component recommendations, upon request
  • Appropriately notifies stakeholders for basic PCNs
  • Works closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and suppliers on all component issues
  • Completes small, assigned projects within commodities
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Technology or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates understanding of key electrical component characteristics
  • Possesses basic knowledge of electrical component applications
  • Demonstrates proficiency using PC systems and applications
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Electronic component purchasing experience
  • Experience in Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical methods, quality standards and best practices
  • Familiarity with electronic manufacturing processes, particularly Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
  • Familiarity with various component manufacturing processes
  • Proficient troubleshooting and "bench skills"
