Job summary

WHOOP is seeking a Component Engineer to ensure electronic components meet performance, reliability, and cost requirements. You will own selection, qualification, lifecycle management, and risk mitigation while partnering with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, quality, and external suppliers.

You will support both new product development and sustaining programs, building scalable processes that strengthen hardware development and manufacturing ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
• 5+ years in electronic component engineering or related hardware role.
• Knowledge of semiconductors, resistors, capacitors, connectors and their applications.
• Experience with component selection, qualification, lifecycle management, testing and failure analysis.
• Familiar with BOM management and obsolescence processes and Product Change Notifications.
• Knowledge of RoHS, UL, IPC and other electronics standards.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills; ability to drive cross-functional actions.
• Commitment to using AI tools in day-to-day tasks with high quality standards.

WHOOP is hiring a Component Engineer to help ensure the electronic components that power our products meet the highest standards for performance, reliability, quality, cost, and supply continuity. In this role, you will own critical aspects of component selection, qualification, lifecycle management, and risk mitigation while partnering closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, quality, and external suppliers. You will support both new product development and sustaining programs, helping WHOOP make informed component decisions and build scalable processes that strengthen our hardware development and manufacturing ecosystem.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Research, evaluate, select, and qualify electronic components for new product development and sustaining programs, ensuring alignment with design, performance, reliability, regulatory, and cost requirements.

• Own component lifecycle and supply risk management, including technical triage of Product Change Notifications, obsolescence planning, alternate component qualification, single-source risk mitigation, and supply continuity initiatives.

• Maintain and improve component libraries, specifications, lifecycle data, and BOM health information in partnership with Procurement and cross-functional teams, ensuring accurate visibility into component status, sourcing risk, alternate availability, and other key attributes.

• Partner with electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and procurement teams to resolve component-related technical issues, support failure analysis and root cause investigations, and identify opportunities for cost, quality, and reliability improvements.

• Collaborate directly with component manufacturers, distributors, and external partners to evaluate technologies, resolve technical issues, develop alternate sources, and support component qualification and sourcing strategies.

• Develop and continuously improve processes for component selection, qualification, standardization, lifecycle management, compliance, and data quality across both NPI and sustaining programs.
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• 5+ years of experience in electronic component engineering, component management, electrical engineering, or a related hardware engineering role.

• Strong knowledge of electronic components such as semiconductors, resistors, capacitors, connectors, and other electrical components, including their applications, manufacturing considerations, and use in electronic designs.

• Experience with component selection, qualification, lifecycle management, electrical testing, reliability requirements, failure analysis, and alternate component evaluation.

• Familiarity with component lifecycle and BOM management practices, including obsolescence, Product Change Notifications, sourcing risk, alternate availability, and component management or PLM systems.

• Working knowledge of relevant industry and regulatory requirements such as RoHS, UL, IPC, and other standards applicable to electronic hardware products.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to identify technical or supply risks and drive cross-functional actions through resolution in a fast-paced hardware environment.

• Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
  

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000 - $195,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training. In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package. These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
