Protingent Staffing seeks a Component Engineer for a contract role focused on nuclear plant systems in Burlington, VT. The position emphasizes design oversight, supplier coordination, and ensuring compliance with major codes. Onsite work with limited travel is expected.

The candidate should have a strong background in mechanical design, lifecycle management, and system integration, delivering robust, code-compliant solutions with effective cross-functional leadership. Travel is minimal.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
  • Experience with component design and manufacture; supplier/contractor coordination.
  • Experience with full hardware lifecycle, from cradle to grave.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, reading drawings.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter who can lead a design team with minimal direction.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with multidisciplinary constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the first of multiple large nuclear fluid pumps through design and manufacture.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to meet scope, performance, and schedule.
  • Provide oversight to partners and subcontractors developing mechanical system designs for the reactor.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, ensuring timely deliverables and reviews.
  • Coordinate interfaces and handoffs between Company, partners, and project teams for cohesive design.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks, keeping Engineering and Project Management informed.
  • Ensure correct design codes (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.) are applied.
  • Support planning and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system and plant delivery.
  • Interface with design team to manage drawing packages (P&IDs, 3D models, interface drawings).
  • Establish system requirements and Engineering Design Specifications for major plant equipment.
  • Propose and oversee testing programs for plant system qualification.
  • Generate design packages including calculations, design reports, drawings, and specifications.

Position Title:

Component Engineer

Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Component Engineer opportunity.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversight of first of multiple large nuclear fluid pumps through design and manufacture.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities, ensuring project teams meet scope, technical performance, and schedule expectations.
  • Provide oversight to partners and subcontractors developing mechanical system designs for the reactor.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the Contract Administrator and Supplier Project Engineer to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces and handoffs between Company, partners, and interfacing project teams to enable cohesive design and fabrication strategies.
  • Identify, communicate, and help resolve emerging technical issues and risks, ensuring Engineering and Project Management are consistently informed.
  • Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
  • Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system, as well as their integration with an overall plant design delivery schedule.
  • Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs), 3D models, and system interface drawings.
  • Establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, such as Engineering Design Specifications for major plant equipment.
  • Propose, initiate, and oversee testing programs for plant system qualification, as needed.
  • Generate design package for systems, sub-systems, and equipment designs including coordination of calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design specifications.
Job Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university and 10+ years direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
  • Experience with component design and manufacture; supplier/contractor coordination and project management experience required.
  • Experience with full hardware lifecycle, from cradle to grave.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and the ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess the ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort with minimal direction.
  • Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, and resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
Job Details

Contract Pay Rate Range: $69,000 – $115,000. Pay rates are approved based on candidate location, education and experience.

Location: Burlington, VT (Onsite). Travel Required: 0–5%.

Export control regulations require candidates to be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Legal Permanent Resident, or of a protected person status.
