Job summary

The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) seeks a Compliance Nurse to ensure regulatory compliance of long-term care facilities in Delaware. The incumbent will conduct surveys for certification and licensure, assess quality of care, and develop deficiency reports and corrective actions.

Essential duties include participating in updating long-term care regulations, maintaining records, and potentially appearing in court or before boards.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Delaware RN license or multi-state compact license.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing with RN experience or a Master's degree in Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct surveys of long-term care facilities for certification/licensure by state and Medicare/Medicaid.
• Consult with facilities to help meet requirements and improve care delivery.
• Investigate complaints alleging violations of health care regulations and patient care.
• Deliver in-service trainings at facilities or in the community about state-of-the-art health care.

The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) seeks to increase the number of applicants for clinical nursing positions by offering a recruitment incentive to eligible Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Consultant, Nursing Supervisor, Compliance Nurse, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Certified Nursing Assistant candidates in accordance with the DHSS Recruitment and Referral Incentive Program. The program provides incentives as follows: Recruitment incentives will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire and will begin after the first quarter of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DHSS. You must be a new employee to the state to be eligible for this incentive. Referral bonuses of $1,000 are available to current DHSS employees who refer new hires to the state in the following classifications: Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Consultant, Nursing Supervisor, Compliance Nurse, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Certified Nursing Assistant. Referral bonuses of $1,000 will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire of the referred applicant. NOTE: This program is administered by the Department of Health and Social Services. The program may be terminated by the State at any time.

Summary Statement

This position is responsible for ensuring the regulatory compliance of long-term care healthcare agencies/facilities in Delaware.� The incumbent will: conduct Federal certification and/or State licensure surveys of long-term care healthcare agencies/facilities; assess the quality of care and relate findings to statutory/regulatory requirements; develop deficiency reports; review/assess corrective action plans; participate in updating long term care healthcare regulations; and prepare/maintain records; and may be required to appear in courts of law or before boards/commissions.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met. Experience in surveying or accrediting acute or long-term care providers for federal and state health care regulations.

• Prepares and maintains a variety of records, reports, and summaries and may be required to appear in courts of law or before boards and commissions.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Compliance Nurse

• At least two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse OR a Bachelors’ degree or higher in Nursing and at least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse OR a Masters’ degree or higher in Nursing.
• Possession of a Delaware Registered Nurse license OR multi-state compact license.
