Job description

The Completions Engineer (Entry Level) supports the technical design, planning, and execution of Fervo’s geothermal well completions, stimulations, and workover activities.

Description

Fervo is working to build the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. Delivering on this mission requires first-of-a-kind well designs, disciplined execution in the field, and continuous learning across the full well lifecycle. Joining Fervo’s Operations organization means operating where subsurface innovation meets real-world execution, with safety, reliability, and capital efficiency as non-negotiables.

We are seeking an entry-level Completions Engineer who is excited by Fervo’s mission and eager to build a career at the intersection of well design and field execution. This role is designed to provide comprehensive training and development for new graduates or engineers with 0–2 years of experience. It begins with a structured training period at our Houston headquarters, followed by a 14/14 rotation at our field operations in Utah, where the successful candidate will work alongside experienced completions and intervention personnel on live operations. After gaining hands‑on field experience as a Well Site Completions Engineer, the candidate will return to Houston as an Operations Completions Engineer.

The Completions Engineer (Entry Level) supports the technical design, planning, and execution of Fervo’s geothermal well completions, stimulations, and workover activities. Working under the direction of Senior Completions Engineers, this role assists in preparing completion programs and procedures, monitors and analyzes operational data, helps troubleshoot issues as they arise in the field, and supports compliance with safety and environmental standards.

This is a development role built around progressive responsibility. The candidate will be exposed to the full well lifecycle — from completion design and stimulation through intervention and optimization — and will work closely with subsurface, drilling, production, and facilities teams. Success requires strong analytical fundamentals, a willingness to learn in a fast‑paced and often ambiguous environment, and a commitment to safe, disciplined field execution.

Responsibilities

Initial Training (Houston Office)

  • Participate in a structured training program covering the fundamentals of completions engineering, stimulation design, and well intervention operations
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers and mentors to learn company processes, standards, and best practices
  • Assist in the preparation of completion and workover programs, detailed operational procedures, and post‑job reports
  • Build familiarity with stimulation and completion modeling software (e.g., ResFrac) and Fervo’s well data systems

Well Site Completions Engineer (Utah Field Location)

  • Support the Completions Supervisor and field leadership in daily completion, stimulation, and workover operations
  • Monitor treating pressures, rates, volumes, and other operational parameters to help ensure safe and efficient execution
  • Assist in the implementation of completion and intervention programs and verify adherence to procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal HSE standards
  • Conduct on‑site equipment and wellhead inspections and participate in safety meetings, pre‑job briefings, and drills
  • Collect and analyze completion and stimulation data to optimize operations and troubleshoot downhole and surface issues
  • Maintain accurate records and daily reports on completion activities, materials consumption, and equipment performance
  • Serve as an on‑site technical resource and elevate completion- and intervention‑related issues to the engineering team

Operations Completions Engineer (Houston Office)

  • Apply field experience to support the planning and execution of completion, stimulation, and workover programs
  • Analyze completion and well performance data and provide recommendations for design and procedural improvement
  • Assist in the design and selection of completion equipment, tools, and materials
  • Support the development of completion and workover cost estimates, from early scoping through AFE‑level detail
  • Compile technical and operational data required for permitting, regulatory filings, and internal approvals
  • Partner with subsurface and reservoir engineering teams to help optimize completion architecture and stimulation designs
  • Contribute to post‑job reviews, lessons‑learned capture, and continuous improvement initiatives across the completions organization
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 0–2 years of experience in completions, well interventions, or a related field — new graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork abilities
  • Willingness to work a 14/14 rotational schedule at remote field locations
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast‑paced, execution‑heavy environments with shifting priorities
  • Commitment to safe work practices and environmental compliance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, co‑op, or field exposure in completions, drilling, or workover operations
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic fracturing, well stimulation, and wellbore construction fundamentals
  • Familiarity with stimulation or completion modeling software (e.g., ResFrac, Kinetix, or similar)
  • Coursework or exposure to risk assessment, hazard analysis, or Management of Change (MOC) processes
  • Interest in geothermal energy and first‑of‑a‑kind, technically complex well designs
