Job description

We are a new hardware security division in a public company, building advanced security technologies across semiconductors, cryptography, and quantum systems.

We are looking for a Compiler Engineer to help build and maintain the compiler/toolchain stack for a custom accelerator ASIC. This role will support our existing compiler infrastructure while building a new LLVM-based compiler flow for custom RISC-V ISA extensions.

This is a hands-on systems role for someone who understands compilers, low-level software, and hardware/software co-design. You will work closely with hardware, cryptography, and software engineers to turn new chip capabilities into usable compiler and toolchain support.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve the existing Python-based compiler/toolchain for a custom accelerator ASIC
  • Build a new LLVM-based compiler flow for custom RISC-V ISA extensions
  • Work with hardware engineers to understand new chip features and expose them through compiler/toolchain support
  • Build tests, simulators, and validation tools to ensure generated code runs correctly and efficiently
  • Optimize low-level kernels for cryptographic, arithmetic, and systems workloads
  • Document compiler design decisions, instruction behavior, and developer workflows
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in compilers or compiler backends
  • Strong understanding of compiler fundamentals, including IR design, register allocation, instruction selection, instruction scheduling, and optimization
  • Strong C, Python, and systems programming skills; ability to work in C++ when extending LLVM infrastructure
  • Experience with LLVM, MLIR, GCC, or similar compiler infrastructure
  • Comfort working close to hardware and collaborating with hardware engineers
Bonus Qualifications
  • Familiarity with RISC-V
  • Experience with LLVM backend development
  • Experience optimizing cryptographic, numerical, or bit-manipulation-heavy code
  • Knowledge of applied cryptography or post-quantum cryptography workloads

This role is hybrid, and can be based in our New York City office or our Portland, Oregon office.

To conform to US Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
