The role requires strong data visualization, dashboard design, and ability to synthesize complex datasets into executive reporting.

Qualifications

  • Senior in market analysis, energy pricing, commercial analytics or a substantially similar role.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Quantitative Finance, Engineering or a related analytical field.
  • Strong understanding of deregulated energy markets and the commercial drivers of retail energy pricing and margin.

  • Proficiency in collecting, querying, organizing and analyzing complex datasets and drawing logical, decision-useful conclusions.
  • Demonstrated excellence in data visualization and dashboard design, including the ability to translate complex and imperfect datasets into intuitive executive-level reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze market conditions, competitor behavior and pricing trends within bp Energy Services and across deregulated energy markets.
  • Design and own a structured competitive intelligence framework that makes it easy for Sales to capture detailed broker and customer feedback consistently across markets, products and customer segments.
  • Develop creative methodologies for producing meaningful apples-to-apples comparisons when market feedback is incomplete, aggregated or based on products with different commercial structures.
  • Analyze various levels of product-level, customer-level and market-wide feedback to determine whether observed differences are driven by price, ancillary-service treatment, fixed versus pass-through cost components, billing methodology, contract terms or other product-design or competitive supply differences.
  • Challenge assumptions and identify differences in cost allocation, risk transfer, pass-through provisions and contractual structure that may affect the validity of a comparison.
  • Become a key partner with Sales, Gross Margin Reporting, Billing Operations, Costing, Portfolio Operations and other interested parties to combine fragmented quantitative and qualitative data into a more complete view of competitive performance.
  • Create simple tools, definitions and feedback processes that improve the quality, consistency and granularity of competitiveness data collected across the Sales organization.
  • Generate key inferences from imperfect datasets, document analytical assumptions and distinguish confirmed findings from directional indicators.
  • Track normalized comparison metrics over time to identify recurring themes, emerging trends, structural gaps and commercial opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain market benchmarks, peer comparisons and competitive positioning assessments by market, customer segment and product.
  • Translate market intelligence into actionable recommendations for leadership and commercial teams, including implications for pricing, margins, costs, product strategy and market approach.
  • Design and maintain intuitive executive dashboards that clearly communicate normalized competitiveness, pricing and margin drivers, win/loss outcomes, data quality and emerging trends over time.
  • Apply data-visualization judgment to select the right metrics, views and level of detail, enabling leadership to understand both outcomes and underlying drivers.
  • Work closely with Costing to track the impacts of regulatory, market-design and rule changes that may affect competitive position, retail pricing or customer economics.
  • Automate recurring analysis and reporting where practical to improve timeliness, consistency and scalability.
  • Support growth initiatives, product development and market-entry assessments with fact-based competitive analysis.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for competitive intelligence and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
