Job summary

Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group in Hell's Kitchen, New York, is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, prepare exam rooms, take histories, and provide client education.

The role requires compassion, excellent communication, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and a genuine love for animals; training and growth opportunities are offered within Suveto's network.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary hospital or similar setting is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of basic animal care and medical terminology.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate nature and genuine love for animals.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn from veterinarians and senior staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors.
• Take history from client and record observations in medical records.
• Educate clients on preventative healthcare and provide follow-up.
• Communicate any patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Perform venipuncture, in-house lab tests, and prepare forms for outside labs; relay results to owners.
• Provide nursing care and monitor patients, including medications and monitoring.
• Admit and discharge patients per protocols; educate on admit/discharge.
• Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, wards, and other areas.
• Must operate practice software for medication dispensing, records, labels, and communications.
• Maintain OSHA safety standards and hospital safety practices.
• Perform client callbacks and updates as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
