Job summary

Magruder-Tabb Animal Clinic in Yorktown, VA, recently moved into a brand new 9,000 sq ft facility and is excited to welcome a Veterinary Assistant. This role provides essential support to the veterinarian during exams and treatment, cares for patients, assists with procedures, and helps ensure high‑quality, compassionate care for every pet.

You will act as a key connection between the veterinarian and clients, helping with education, medical records, and checkout.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic computer proficiency with practice management software and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with animals preferred; veterinary or animal care background valued.

Responsibilities

• Provides compassionate, professional care to patients and clients at all times.
• Communicates clearly and respectfully with clients, doctors, and team members.
• Assists the veterinarian during exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures.
• Safely restrains animals using low-stress handling techniques.
• Administers medications, draws up vaccines, collects lab samples, and performs basic lab tests.
• Creates and enters treatment plans in the medical records system.
• Educates clients on vaccinations, medications, and treatment protocols.
