Job summary

Banfield Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, educate clients on pet health, and maintain a safe hospital environment. The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to Five Principles, and NAVTA-aligned tasks within state practice acts.

The position requires NAVTA-training or equivalent, strong client service skills, and flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends.

Qualifications

• NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Able to perform NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant skills as part of daily practice.
• Must be at least 18 years old to perform radiography duties.
• One year related experience with customer service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• Act as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure best quality pet care.
• Communicate with veterinarians, technicians and associates to maintain patient flow.
• Provide professional, efficient service; prepare procedures and ensure client/pet comfort.
• Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care and hospital services.
• Obtain client history and maintain medical charts.
• Ensure safety of pets, clients and staff by following protocols and maintaining clean areas.
• Assist with surgery as applicable.
• Utilize NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties.
• Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
