Job summary

Great Southern Animal Hospital in Columbus, OH is seeking a passionate Veterinary Assistant to join our caring team. You will support veterinarians and technicians, restrain and handle animals safely, and prepare exam rooms in a fast-paced clinic.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; veterinary assistant certification a plus.
• Ability to safely handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
• Strong communication skills and client-focused demeanor.
• Comfort with fast-paced environments and multitasking.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and procedures
• Restrain and handle animals safely and compassionately during treatments
• Prepare exam rooms and ensure they are clean, stocked, and sanitized between appointments
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
• Collect and process lab samples including blood draws, urinalysis, and fecal tests
• Communicate with pet owners regarding care instructions, appointments, and follow-ups
• Maintain accurate patient records and update medical histories in practice management software
• Provide compassionate care and monitoring for hospitalized and boarding animals
