Job summary

Saint Peter Public Schools at North Elementary seeks dedicated Special Education Paraprofessionals to support students in grades 2-4. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma (60 credits preferred), experience with children in special education, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 60 college credits in education or special education preferred.
• Previous experience with children, especially in a special education setting, is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students with diverse needs.
• Basic understanding of special education laws and best practices is a plus.
• Must be able to pass background checks as required by the school district.
• Availability to work part-time hours during the school day.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during instructional activities.
• Help with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Support students in developing social skills and appropriate behaviors.
• Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
• Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to the teacher.
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other educators and staff members.
• Assist students with personal care and mobility as needed.
• Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
