Job summary

Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS) seeks Shelter Support Specialists for the SERVE Emergency Family Shelter in Manassas, VA. You will provide essential 24-hour awake coverage, ensuring a safe, trauma-informed, and welcoming environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

You will work closely with Housing Counselors, respond empathetically to guests, and help them access resources to achieve housing stability. The role is on-site with shift-based responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience in human services or related field preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work with trauma-informed approaches and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour awake coverage and supervision at the shelter.
• Foster a safe, welcoming environment and respond to guest needs with empathy.
• Collaborate with Housing Counselors to support housing goals.
• Document incidents and maintain confidential guest records.
• Assist with intake, orientation, and adherence to CACFP requirements.
