Job summary

Qualifications

• Required: Associate Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (ASN)
• Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (BSN).
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
• Current BLS/ACLS/PALS per department requirements based on patient population needs.
• NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire (UCMC Psychiatric Services).
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Engages in population appropriate communication.

• Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
• Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
• Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
• Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
• Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
• Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
• Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Clinical Judgment includes clinical reasoning and adherence to protocols.
• Advocacy includes representing patient/family and nursing staff and maintaining confidentiality.
• Caring Practices focus on compassionate, supportive care and patient independence.
