Job summary

Southeast Elementary School in Kinston, North Carolina seeks an Exceptional Children’s Pre-K Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver to support lead teachers and ensure safe transportation for students. The role requires assisting instruction, supervising children, and maintaining a clean classroom environment.

The position reports to the Exceptional Children Director and Preschool Coordinator with a starting date immediately.

Qualifications

• Minimum Training and Experience: High school diploma and a minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework; Associates preferred; CPR/First Aid Certification; CDL with P and S endorsement.
• Minimum Qualifications: Lenoir County Public Schools requirements and safety-focused credentials.
• CPR/First Aid Certification and CDL may be required or preferred depending on assignment.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
• Monitor safety and well-being of students and encourage independence.
• Deescalate inappropriate behaviors using developmentally appropriate techniques.
• Supervise activity centers and provide individual assistance.
• Maintain a safe indoor/outdoor space for creative play.
• Assist with housekeeping to keep a clean classroom.
• Maintain staff/child ratio and visual supervision at all times.
• Assist children with personal and self-help needs.
• Promote handwashing and sanitize classroom equipment.
• Distribute meals and assist with snacks.
• Escort students to and from the bus and classrooms.
• Follow NC Child Care Regulations and district standards.
