Qualifications

• Completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program is preferred.
• One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Public relations skills and verbal ability to communicate with patients are necessary.
• Finger and manual dexterity to handle small equipment required.
• Finger sensitivity to locate veins is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks for blood samples.
• Properly identify patients and follow specimen collection procedures.
• Enter collection information into the laboratory computer system.
• Collect chain of custody urine drug screens using proper procedures.
• Pick up samples from nursing units as required.
