Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certificate through NACES / approved program with internship showing 100 venipunctures.
• In lieu of internship, 6 months phlebotomy experience acceptable.
• In lieu of certification, 5+ years direct phlebotomy experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Schedule venipunctures or capillary punctures per priority and test type.
• Prepare and label specimens per procedures and universal precautions.
• Verify patient identity and prepare patients prior to collection.
• Collect blood samples via venipuncture or capillary puncture; alert staff to deviations or adverse conditions.
• Perform coagulation tests and prepare samples for transport.
• Maintain records of specimen procurement and handle clerical tasks to register patients.
