Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) who reports to the Nurse Manager and works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role includes measuring and documenting vital signs, moving patients, and communicating concerns to the care team to support a patient-centered approach.

The position is hourly, with a 36-hour weekly schedule. A high school diploma or GED is required, and Basic Life Support must be current at hire and maintained

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; one year of patient care experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire and must be maintained thereafter via AHA or ARC credentials.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with personal hygiene, restroom use, grooming, and daily activities.
• Monitor vital signs and patient condition, including temperature and pulse.
• Assist nursing staff with basic treatments as directed.
• Ensure patient care supplies and linen are stocked and rooms are clean.
• Provide emotional support and respond to patient needs.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor as required.
• Empty drains, ostomies, and Foley bags.
• Perform blood sugar checks.
• Assist with other duties assigned by the department leader.
