Job summary

VNA Health's Serenity House in Santa Barbara, CA seeks a compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join an interdisciplinary hospice care team. The role provides personalized, hands-on patient care at end of life in an inpatient setting.

Shifts are three 12-hour days (7:00 AM–7:00 PM), with weekend and holiday rotation possible. Candidates must hold California CNA and CPR certifications, and have strong empathy and teamwork to support patients and families during difficult moments.

Qualifications

• This position requires current and active California CNA certification.
• CPR certification is required.
• One year hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care.
• Self-directed with minimal supervision.
• Empathy for ill patients and hospice care understanding.
• Basic computer skills for documentation.
• Reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care as directed by the hospice nurse and follow the CNA Care Plan.
• Rounds on patients every two hours.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and assist with light housekeeping.
• Assist with meals and feeding when needed; manage food and dishes in patient rooms.
• Report changes to hospice nurse or Serenity House Manager.
• Take vital signs when ordered.
• Assist with activities of daily living and mobility as directed.
• Post mortem care as required.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and training.
