Job summary

Angels Care Hospice seeks a compassionate hospice aide to join our team. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to perform essential comfort care, observe patients, and document observations to support quality home health care.

You will assist with personal care, meals, and mobility, while maintaining confidentiality and ethical conduct. Training and references are required to ensure high standards of care in our patient-centered environment.

Qualifications

• Meets the training requirements of the State.
• Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
• Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed prior to a mandatory 16 hours of practical training.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
• Understands hospice philosophy and comfort with terminally ill patients.
• Satisfactory references from previous employers.
• Is self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
• Secure with issues of death/dying.
• Provides a calm manner when in a patient’s home.
• Has empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired.

Responsibilities

• Perform personal care tasks as assigned and promptly attend to requests.
• Communicate with patients and families in a positive, respectful manner.
• Provide baths, grooming, oral hygiene, shampoos, and bed linen changes.
• Assist with dressing and undressing patients as directed.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals; assist with feeding as needed.
• Observe skin condition to prevent tissue breakdown and report changes.
• Assess and report patient status to the Case Manager.
• Assist in ambulation and prescribed exercises.
• Support transfers/positioning and range of motion.
• Assist with bedpan and urinal use and light laundry tasks.
• Perform extension therapies as ordered with competency.
