Job summary

Gift of Life Michigan is seeking a Donation Support Specialist to compassionately engage families and hospital teams, guiding discussions on organ, tissue, and eye donation. You will help obtain authorization while supporting families in crisis with sensitive information and timely communication.

The role emphasizes collaboration with clinical staff, adherence to procedures, and a commitment to ethical practice in donation services.

Qualifications

Combined total of 7 years’ work experience and education in a related field.
Preferred experience in healthcare, transplant, or organ/tissue procurement.
Bilingual in Spanish and/or Arabic; strong English fluency.

Responsibilities

Approach families of potential donors in person and onsite, and respond to referrals.
Educate hospital teams and families to obtain authorization for organ, tissue, and eye donation.
Maintain an authorization rate with best-practice skills.
Complete authorization paperwork with the legal decision maker and educate families.
Engage with next of kin to honor donor decisions.
Collaborate with hospital care teams to address family dynamics and barriers.
Coordinate with Gift of Life clinicians on family conversations when indicated.
Assess referrals for escalation and seek appropriate guidance.
Conduct Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) with family or informants.
Post donation follow-up as scheduled; adhere to department expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
