Job summary

Independence Village of Ankeny is seeking a Caregiver/Medication Manager to provide compassionate personal care to residents and oversee medication administration.

The role involves assisting residents with daily activities, taking vital signs when needed, and reporting changes to the nurse. On-site certification support is available, with preference for healthcare/geriatric experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to obtain Medication Manager certification on-site if not already certified.
• Experience in healthcare/geriatrics or working with the elderly preferred.
• Training per state requirements.
• Desire to work with geriatric population.

Responsibilities

• Bathe and clean residents as needed (bed bath, shower, or whirlpool).
• Follow medication administration protocols for each resident.
• Assist in grooming (teeth, hair, nails, makeup, glasses).
• Make beds and change linens; keep rooms neat.
• Answer emergency calls promptly.
• Assist with bedpan, urinal, bedside commode or bathroom; monitor incontinence.
• Take vital signs and report abnormalities to nurse or Executive Director.
• Report skin breakdown or changes in condition promptly.
• Assist in transport, ambulation, positioning, ROM; use lifting devices.
• Maintain resident privacy and dignity and follow Resident Bill of Rights.
• Provide activity programming and care.
• Assist in admission/transfer/discharge and room readiness.
• Complete Daily Assignment sheets with authorized abbreviations.
• Identify resident before care.
• Follow universal precautions and infection control.
• Report accidents or abuse immediately.
• Maintain equipment and supplies; perform housekeeping as assigned.
• Respond to emergencies and other duties as assigned.
