Job description

This position primarily provides Community Stabilization services to individuals experiencing behavioral health needs, including mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. Services may include diagnostic assessments, treatment/service planning, and brief interventions. The Clinician also supports crisis service delivery based on program needs, including emergency assessments and interventions for individuals in acute crisis.

This role works as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess risk, coordinate care, and ensure continuity of services across community providers and systems. The position requires the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations, apply sound clinical judgment, and maintain compliance with applicable regulations and agency policies.

CORE COMPETENCIES OF POSITION ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Children’s Community Stabilization/ FOCUS

• Provides diagnostic screening assessments and intake of new service requests.
• Provides individual and family therapy with clients affected by trauma, crisis, and group counseling interventions in accordance with the problems, needs, and the strategies identified to help the client progress achieving stated goals and objectives.
• Participates in staff meetings and assists in the accurate diagnosing and treatment planning of clients served.
• Develops appropriate treatment/service plans with clients and in consultation with other clinical staff.
• Reviews with the client, supervisor and/or other staff on a regular (but no less than quarterly) basis, the progress made in reaching treatment/service goals.
• Modifies treatment plans as necessary to ensure that treatment interventions remain adequately focused.
• Documents appropriate and timely service-related information including diagnostic summaries, progress notes, treatment/service plans and reviews, drug profiles, correspondences, releases of information, special reports.
• Participates in interagency planning and service coordination activities to improve and enhance service continuity and effectiveness for clients.
• Responsible for coordinating cases from multiple referral sources.
• Receives regular supervision (may include videotaped and/or live supervision) as a means of enhancing professional growth, reviewing, and processing the provision of clinical services.

Crisis Clinician I

• Performs complex, code mandated evaluations to include mental status examination and comprehensive risk assessment.
• Provides emergency crisis intervention services to individuals who are high risk, i.e., suicidal, homicidal, experiencing symptoms of psychosis, with the goal of stabilization and finding creative and safe community treatment alternatives.
• Makes independent diagnosis and determines if civil commitment criteria are met; when clinically indicated, recommends and petitions for Emergency Custody Order or Temporary Detention Order.
• Performs emergency evaluations of inmates at local correctional facilities who may need acute psychiatric hospitalization; when clinically indicated, recommends Temporary Detention Order and collaborates with state facility on placement.
• Evaluates individuals seeking voluntary admission to a crisis stabilization unit.
• Works closely and collaborates with law enforcement officers and/or Sheriff’s deputies throughout the evaluation and detention process.
• Implements continuity of care procedures and coordinates all admissions to private and state facilities, in observance of all applicable diversionary initiatives.
• Provides therapeutic response and problem-solving skills when answering 24-hour crisis telephone lines, assessing in real-time any risk, and triaging with necessary emergency personnel.
• Receives general training and guidance through onboarding from the Crisis Services Manager and those within the Crisis Clinician II and Crisis Clinician III roles, with the latter being related specifically to more immediate on-site issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in a relevant human services field required.
• Virginia LMHP eligibility required; Virginia Board registration required within 6 months of employment.
• Certified Preadmission Screening Clinician (CPSC) certification required within 6 months of employment.
• A combination of mental health work experience or relevant education, and training, which indicates the possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job duties.
• An eagerness to invest in one’s community through service.
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License, good driving record, and the ability to provide own transportation.

SALARY: Starting at $63,951
