Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads seeks a Sports Attendant to support the Program Director in delivering safe, engaging experiences for members and participants. You will help ensure safety, set up equipment, and assist with games and events while embodying the YMCA values of honesty, respect, caring, faith and responsibility.

You will work primarily during evenings and weekends to support programs, assist with first aid when needed, and help maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment for all

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Prior work experience preferred.
• A professional, clean appearance and great attitude.
• Strong customer service, organizational and communication skills.
• A well-rounded individual who can engage with members, co-workers, directors and volunteers in a positive and professional manner.
• Attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Daily performs safety check of equipment.
• Sets up and breaks down equipment in a timely manner.
• Ensures that games begin and end at scheduled times.
• Assists Sports Director in Adult & Youth Sports and Interactive Zone programs.
• Assists supervising officials and participants at game sites.
• Responds to injuries through administering first aid and proper reporting.
• Settling on-field and on-court rule protests and disputes.
• Monitors on and off-site activities and enforces rules and regulations.
• Obtains feedback from players and spectators regarding their participation in the program.
• Ensures all areas of responsibility are clean and free of potential safety risks.
• Communicates YMCA policies, programs, and special events.
• Promotes the YMCA mission, vision, and character development.
• Actively participates in annual fund raising campaigns.
• Assists with coaches meetings, captains meeting, dinners, and other special events.
• Be physically present in the program. This requires most weekend and evening hours.
• Attends center and association meetings as appropriate and directed by your supervisor.
• Attainment of goals and objectives as evidenced in the performance appraisal process.
• Works to increase participation and retention of members/participants.
• Develops and maintains good staff and volunteer relations.
• Assists with other duties as requested
