Job summary

Bellflower Unified School District is seeking a part-time Community Liaison to connect students and families with school programs, services, and community resources. The role supports attendance, engagement, and academic achievement through direct outreach, home visits, and documentation of activities.

The position operates 3.5 hours per day during the school year, with supervision from an administrator and lead direction from a senior worker.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Serves as liaison between the assigned school site and families of enrolled students, relaying information regarding school standards, requirements, policies, procedures, and District programs.
  • Conducts outreach to families in support of site attendance, registration, and enrollment activities, including contact regarding chronic absenteeism and non-enrollment.
  • Communicates with families by telephone, written correspondence, and home visits, concerning student attendance, behavior, academic requirements and progress.
  • Identifies school and community resources appropriate to student and family needs; refers families to social service agencies, community organizations, and public offices.
  • Provides ongoing case management for referred students and families, including follow-up on established plans and coordination with social service agencies.
  • Promotes family participation in school activities, parent education classes, and advisory councils
  • Interprets and translates for families and staff as assigned.
  • Updates and maintains contact records, referral documentation, databases, forms, and related data; compiles and prepares reports as needed to support program and administrative activities.
  • Prepares and distributes correspondence, certificates, notices, and informational materials to families.
  • Participates in School Attendance Review Board (SARB), Student Attendance Review Team (SART), Student Study Team (SST), and other site and District meetings; attends workshops, trainings, and conferences as assigned.
  • May operate a vehicle to travel to school sites, community events, and family homes.
  • Conducts home visits and travels to school sites, family homes, and community locations to meet with students and families.

This is a 9-month position working 3.5 hours per day during the school year. Under general supervision, serves as a liaison between an assigned school site, the District, and the community to strengthen student attendance, engagement, and academic achievement; connects students and families with school programs, District services, and community resources.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This classification is characterized by direct, individualized outreach and support to students and families at an assigned school site, including case management and referral to school, District, and community resources.

It is distinguished from the Community Services Worker - Lead in that the Lead coordinates family support programming on a District-wide basis, develops resource partnerships, serves as the primary point of contact with external agencies, and provides lead direction and technical guidance to positions in this class.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from a designated administrator. Receives lead direction and technical guidance from the Community Services Worker - Lead. This position does not exercise supervisory authority.

Typical Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of paid or unpaid experience in community services, family support, or student services work with children and families.

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Additional Requirements/Information

Some positions in this classification may require bilingual proficiency in a designated second language. Bilingual proficiency will be verified through District-administered testing.

A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required.
